It is the only spontaneous, <strong>upright-growing <\/strong>representative of the <strong>mountain pine<\/strong> group in the Aosta Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">It is a <strong>microthermal species<\/strong>, meaning it is adapted to cold climates, like the Swiss pine, but it can <strong>descend to lower elevations<\/strong> \u2014 even into the montane belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In contact with <strong>Scots pine<\/strong>, it can hybridise, forming <strong>unique genetic hybrid populations<\/strong> \u2014 as found in the <strong>Champorcher Valley and Chalamy area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Above the villages of <strong>Petit and Grand Rosier<\/strong>, lies one of the most fascinating hybridisation zones, where the two pines blend their characteristics.
